Samling: Philip Thorkildsen
Oslo-born Philip Thorkildsen, known as Pipten, began his creative journey in the world of music, studying violin, sound design, and music's ability to evoke emotions. However, in his late twenties, he shifted focus and dedicated himself to painting.
Within a short time, he developed a distinctive artistic style that reflects a continuity with his musical background, where movement and emotional energy are prominent elements.
Pipten combines technical precision with spontaneity. His portraits and cityscapes are characterized by dynamic brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and an immediate sense of motion. A hallmark of his work is the "split face" technique, where the subject’s face is divided into two contrasting expressions: one naturalistic side reflecting the external impression, and another expressive, colorful side aiming to reveal the inner essence.
Though Pipten works quickly and intuitively, his creations are always guided by a clear vision and purpose. He aspires for his art to engage the viewer over time, inviting interpretations and fostering a dialogue that evolves. Striving to balance joy and mystery, Pipten seeks to create art that is both accessible and thought-provoking.
For Pipten, art is about more than the visual. It is a means of exploring and understanding both the subject and the viewer's experience. He believes that great art should inspire the audience to think, feel, and dream—not just in the moment but throughout their lives.
